LEGO price-beat: supplier-funded coupons that survive site-wide sales
+306% lift on price-match discount; +81% on best-price affirmation alone — both stacking cleanly inside the retailer's own promo calendar.
- +306% Conversion lift (price-match)
- +81% Conversion lift (affirmation)
A leading toy retailer partnered with Particular Audience to price-match LEGO products against three major competitors. Two modal variants were tested: (1) affirming the retailer already had the best price, and (2) citing a cheaper competitor and making up the difference with a supplier-funded coupon scoped to eligible SKUs only.
The price-match discount variant drove a +306% lift in conversion over baseline (5.6% vs 1.4%). The best-price affirmation variant — used when the retailer was already cheapest — still delivered a +81% lift, converting price-comparison shoppers who would otherwise have bounced.
Critically, the supplier-funded coupon ran inside the retailer's own promotional calendar without cannibalizing blanket sales. The mediation layer enforced eligibility, prevented double-discounting, and let both the site-wide promo and the SKU-scoped supplier coupon survive in the same session.
Customers that triggered a price-match modal converted at a significantly higher rate than customers that did not. Even confirming the site already had the best price drove significant uplift. — Toy retailer case write-up, Similar Inc
