The retail operating system

One engine for every retail decision.

Most retailers run four or five separate tools.

Search in one tool, pricing in another, ads bolted on top — nobody owns the order shoppers see, and margin leaks between them. The Unified Decision Engine governs relevance, inventory, margin and sponsored demand in one pass, on every surface, including the AI assistants now doing the shopping.

Start with one surface. Leave the rest of your stack untouched.

Dynamic Joint Business Plans for Supplier-Funded Offers

Build a joint business plan that can adapt through approved changes. Keep promotion funding, media budgets, evidence and ownership clear with a planning template.

How to build a dynamic joint business plan

A dynamic joint business plan is a retailer-supplier plan with an agreed process for reviewing and changing execution as conditions change. It still needs explicit budgets, product scope, responsibilities and approvals. Treat changes as governed decisions, with promotion funding and advertising spend recorded separately.

Keep the agreement and define what can change

Begin with the commercial outcome both parties want and the decisions each can make. Specify eligible products, dates, funding limits, approved channels and the evidence used in review.

List the conditions that could trigger a change: stock pressure, an offer becoming uncompetitive, weak delivery or an agreed performance review. A trigger should request a decision; it should not silently grant authority to change a price or move money.

Separate the funding pots

Record media budget, promotion funding and fees on their own lines. State who pays, who receives each payment and when a charge arises. A funding limit is not necessarily cash already received.

For a synthetic example, a supplier approves £1,000 for savings and £300 for media. Eighty eligible redemptions at £5 use £400 of promotion funding. Media delivery incurs £180. The remaining limits are £600 and £120 respectively. They are not interchangeable without approval, and the example excludes fees.

The £400 saving is shopper value funded under the promotion agreement, not extra media revenue. A combined supplier-retailer analysis must also avoid treating the same funding transfer as new value on both sides.

Create a controlled change record

Each proposed change needs the affected plan version, evidence, proposed action, owner, approval and effective time. Preserve the previous version so a later report can explain what was active when the shopper saw an offer.

Define how the system behaves when a change arrives late or conflicts with an existing commitment. Agree a stop or review path for unknown eligibility, exhausted funding or unapproved stacking. Do not infer permission from a successful data transfer.

Measure the decision you changed

Separate delivery, redemption and attributed sales from additional outcomes. If the decision concerns the impact of a saving, visibility or both, design the comparison to distinguish those components where practical.

Include category substitution, returns and operating costs in the business review. Avoid judging the entire agreement from a single campaign's attributed ROAS.

Map the plan to supported tools

Trade Media is PA's relevant supplier-funded savings proposition, while RevenueOS describes adjacent commercial workflow. This template is a proposed planning method, not a claim that PA automatically rewrites agreements or reallocates funding.

The product page's co-funding demonstration remains an unavailable concept. Confirm the actual funding arrangement and supported controls before implementation. Use the plan, budget and decision-log templates to make a category pilot concrete and reviewable.

Frequently asked questions

Does dynamic mean the system changes a joint business plan automatically?

Not in this guide. It means the parties define how evidence leads to an approved change. Actual automation requires supported controls, explicit authority and an auditable implementation.

Can unused media budget fund additional discounts?

Only if the agreement permits the transfer and the authorised owners approve it. Keep media and savings limits separate; neither a remaining limit nor a booking is necessarily collected cash.

How should retailer and supplier results be combined?

Define each perspective first. Reconcile interparty funding transfers and remove double counting before describing combined value. Use a finance-approved contribution model rather than adding attributed sales to funding and media income.
